Dragon of Hamble is a Beneteau First 44.7 built in 2004. She completed the 2005 Fastnet race finishing 45th in IRC 1. She was based in the Hamble until 2008 when I purchased her. I then sailed her up to the west coast of Scotland and she has been based at Oban, Inverness and the Isle of Harris for various periods since. She has been cruised extensively with friends on the west coast of Scotland, Orkney, the outer Hebrides and Ireland. We sailed to Norway in 2013 and cruised there for some time, returning via Shetland. In 2014 myself and Jamie Rodgers sailed from Scotland to the Faroe Islands and back as a qualifying passage for the AZAB race.

I learnt to sail on keel boats in 2007. I then purchased a Beneteau First 30E and sailed her mainly in the Moray Firth on the east coast of Scotland. In 2008 I purchased Dragon of Hamble, a Beneteau First 44.7 which was based on the Hamble. Together with friends I sailed her up to the west coast of Scotland via Ireland. I have been cruising Dragon ever since including Scotland, Ireland, Norway and the Faroe Islands.

I started sailing in 2009 and have since spent as much time as possible on and around boats. I live on a small sailing boat whilst studying for a degree in Marine Science at the Scottish Association for Marine Science. I also work as a Dinghy Instructor for Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust and sail as crew with family or more recently skippering with friends around the north west of Scotland. My first offshore trip as crew was on-board Dragon to Norway when I was 16, and last summer we sailed to the Faroes as our qualifier for AZAB 2015; consequentially at the time of writing I haven’t actually sailed south of Northern Island, so it will be a totally new experience to be heading for the warm waters of the Azores.
